Boston-based and serious as a heart attack, King Junk is steeped in the heritage of blues driven rock ‘n roll – the very music that set the world on fire in the 70’s through the 80’s and 90’s into today. All around the country a ground swell is happening – a palpable excitement generated by jam bands and the return to rock ‘n roll form by bands such as Gov’t Mule and Velvet Revolver. King Junk answers the clarion call for this impassioned high-energy, blues-infused music.

Guitarist and vocalist Thom Cox started out like many teenagers in the late seventies. A disciple of Jimmy Page, his guitar strung low around his waist and hair not far above it, he was no different from any other teenager your mother forbid you to play with. Including forays into jazz and avant garde classical music, Thom’s musical journey has been a wild and untamed one. His heroes include Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Warren Haynes.

Bassist and vocalist Dan Dougherty comes from the tradition of confessional singer-songwriters set forth by such artists as James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen. He couples this with a passion for blues-based hard hitting, grooving rock ‘n roll and a love for folding beautiful melodies and harmonies into this mix. Performing in bands such as Sequence, The J-P Production, and solo on occasion, Dan has followed his musical journey to its apex – here with King Junk.

Like his brother Dan, Joe Dougherty grew up in Lexington Massachusetts and was indoctrinated into the school of heavy blues and southern rock and also the darkness and mystery of bands like Black Sabbath and the peaceful folk of James Taylor. In King Junk Joe pulls from all his influences to provide the inertia for the band machine and like his idols John Bonham and AC/DC’s Phil Rudd, Joe lays down the heavy solid groove - the rock on which the King Junk sound is built.

The wild ride and energy that is King Junk has been captured on the band’s first CD The Madness of King Junk available locally and at amazon.com. The eleven songs that comprise this disc have been called an evolving musical journey unheard since the heyday of arena performance oriented rock.

King Junk has a loyal and active fan base and is a mainstay of the Boston club scene including performances at Harper’s Ferry, Good Times Emporium and PA’s Lounge.
